Addiction

It is so ironic when we see
a powerful being weakened
by the smallest of things. Like
the elephant fearing the mouse,
our imagination is bound by
these. The seemingly strongest
is crippled by the weakest.
Every one of us is tied
to a lifeline, or umbilical cord,
that gives us the strength and
security to face the world every
day. Our need for this attachment
actually weakens us to our
very core. If we ever disconnected
and severed this umbilical lifeline,
would we be free falling or
blissfully floating? Would the
world appear different?
Would it be cruel or welcoming?
Would we be able to recognize
ourselves without that umbilical
cord? Are we merely addicted
and defined by attachment?
